G:em Events - Youth Leader Info
A note from Amy Burns, Director of G:em
G:em in no way replaces the fantastic work you are consistently doing with your girls BUT hopefully we can be a little bit of extra help to you and supplement what you are doing. Single sex youth work has loads of benefits and specific girls ministry can often be a great catalyst for girls in their relationship with God. I speak from experience having been a youth worker for six years but also from being a part of a girls ministry project as a teenager myself.
So, first things first – if you’re female YOU are always welcome to our events, in fact, we would love it if you came along with your girls and enjoyed the chance to just have fun with them without the concern of leading programme. If you’re not female then we’re sorry but obviously our event doors are shut to you. You may want to find a female leader to accompany your girls but this isn’t necessary as there are always members of the G:em team at events with the specific purpose of looking out for girls who are there alone or without leaders.
Our events are designed with specific groups of girls in mind but there are few hard and fast rules about who can attend each one.
• As a general guideline Chick Flix are open to everyone, and we mean everyone. We openly encourage girls of all ages mixing together and this is also a great chance to bring friends/family from outside church. Chick Flix will always have a U or PG rating unless we have clearly stated that it is a 12a, in which case under 12’s will have to have adult with them (just like the cinema).
• Gem Workshop Days are for girls aged 11 upwards (i.e. school year 7) but there is no upper age limit, although the activities are aimed for girls up to around 14 or 15. Whilst there is Christian content in these days it is of an introductory style with a gospel message so is therefore a great opportunity for new or not yet Christians to find out more.
• Girls Night In has no age restrictions but the content is aimed at girls in their late teens or twenties. The Nights include extended periods of worship and teaching.
If you have any queries about any aspect of the G:em programme please do not hesitate to Contact Us and we will do our best to respond promptly.
